Italian football officials met Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola directly to talk about taking over from Roberto Mancini as national team coach.

The meeting included technical staff such as board members Paolo Maldini and Leonardo.

Despite continued English media speculation about a Premier League return, Guardiola apparently showed no personal desire for the role.

He earlier indicated his unwillingness to take on the job amidst reports of interest from Italy.

Currently, no decision has been made concerning the managerial position.
