sardinella aurita appeared at off north-west Africa, a subcylindrical pelagic fish with rounded belly, eight pelvic-fin rays and frontoparietal stripes on the head. Its length ranges from 23-28 cm, may reach around 30 cm. Distinctive marks include a spot on the hind border of the gill cover. It is commonly found in the central East Atlantic, often caught alongside related sardine species. Careful identification is needed in mixed catches.
