A strong earthquake hit New Zealand towards the end of July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no injuries or damage were reported so far. In California, a smaller 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the day before. Heavy aftershocks continue to strike Venezuela after the country’s recent major quakes. A large number of people remain trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams labor continuously. PAHO says hospitals are urgently seeking aid to cope with additional crises.
